A Home For Frogs - Build It And They Will Come

Just under two years ago Kitty decided we needed another pond dedicated to wildlife in the garden. Last week we were delighted to see the arrival of our first frogs and some frogspawn!

Kitty finds many wonderful preloved things for sale locally and it is never a surprise when she announces that we need to go out and collect something. I was quite surprised when she said she had bought another garden pond though. After a little masculine resistance I decided that she normally makes some exceptionally good decisions.

So we collected the pond and set it in the ground on a very hot summers day in 2016. We filled it with water, put in some native plants and left it. We were delighted the following year with the newts, dragonflies and damselflies  that we saw enjoying this new environment.

A few days back we were thrilled to find that four common frogs (Rana temporaria) had decided to call our little pond home and a breeding ground for this years young!

With wildlife of all shapes and sizes it is very much a case of "build it and they will come" and I'm sure these frogs appreciate Kitty's good intentions.

Best regards,

Phil.
